Pixar’s Soul reveals cast: Tina Fey, Jamie Foxx, Daveed Diggs, and more

The cast of Pixar’s next next film is overflowing with its very title.

Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey will lead the voice cast for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Soul, an original film helmed by Pixar staple (and newly minted chief creative officer) Pete Docter, who previously directed Monsters, Inc., Up, and Inside Out for the studio.

Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, and Questlove will also lend their voices to Soul, in an announcement made by Docter, producer Dana Murray, co-director and writer Ken Powers, and writer Mike Jones at Disney’s biennial fan expo D23 Expo on Saturday.

Soul aims to crack open the origins of our passions, dreams, and interests that make us all human, according to Docter. “I’m directing a film that asks the ultimate question that we’ve all thought about at one time or another: Why am I here? Where did I come from? And what am I here for?” Docter revealed. “But who would make a cartoon about that? Metaphysics? We’re calling it Soul.”

Leonardo DiCaprio’s foundation pledges $5 million in aid for Amazon wildfires

Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental foundation is pledging $5 million in aid to the Amazon rainforest amid wildfire in the region.

Earth Alliance — created last month by DiCaprio and philanthropists Laurene Powell Jobs and Brian Sheth — launched the Amazon Forest Fund on Sunday with an announcement on their website.

“The Amazon rainforest is on fire, with more than 9,000 wildfires scorching delicate, irreplaceable landscapes across Brazil this week,” read a statement on the site.

“The destruction of the Amazon rainforest is rapidly releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, destroying an ecosystem that absorbs millions of tons of carbon emissions every year and is one of the planet’s best defenses against the climate crisis.”

The alliance is also seeking donations from supporters to help repair the Brazilian rainforest.

Israel Broussard apologizes for alleged racist, homophobic tweets and likes

The perceived racist and homophobic tweets have been deleted, and the actor responsible for them has issued a generic apology with a promise to do better going forward.

All’s good then for “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” star Israel Broussard, right?

Not quite. Twitterverse has a long memory and, most damning, screen shots. Netflix debuted the high-school rom-com last week, and not long after alleged past tweets from 22-year-old Broussard were being revived and revealing him to be, at the very least, insensitive.

In a 2011 tweet following the strongest earthquake to hit Japan (9.1 magnitude off the coast of Tohoku), Broussard reportedly tweeted, “Dogs can sense earthquakes. Too bad Japan ate them all,” according to the Daily Beast.

Broussard also allegedly said, “Black Lives Matter has one goal. Division” in 2016.

And in 2009, “I’m not going out for a gay role, thank you though. Haha.”

Social media users also shared screen shots of Broussard liking controversial posts such as Ben Shapiro’s “The travel ban is not Japanese internment. Immigration enforcement is not Nazi Germany. READ A F***ING BOOK,” and one from David Icke about the Sandy Hook school mass shooting being a hoax.

YouTube Star GloZell Green Launches Kids’ Channel

GloZell Green, the YouTube-famous green-lipsticked comedian and new mom, is launching a high-energy online channel for preschoolers.

“GloBugz!”, combining live-action and animated segments with songs and educational content, is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions and PB&J Television. Green, whose videos boast nearly 1 billion views on YouTube, said she’s long dreamed of delving into kids’ content. The new channel, which has been in the works for more than a year, has special meaning for her now that she has an 11-month-old daughter.

GloZell Green

Moms are always looking for content that’s clean and fun — and that you don’t mind watching over and over,” GloZell said. “We wanted to do something where you’re learning, but you’re not getting hit over the head.”

“GloBugz!” will feature nursery-rhyme singalongs in both English and eventually Spanish; instructional “kid-splaining” videos on topics such as learning to jump rope; kid do-it-yourself projects; and an edutainment feature called “Top 5” focusing on words kids can learn in Japanese, Russian and American Sign Language. Producers say the channel will focus on educational foundations of literacy, science and math.

The channel is named after the appellation for her large fanbase — she counts nearly 5 million subscribers on her two YouTube channels — and the programming will feature animated lightning-bug characters.

GloZell Green (yes, that’s her actual name) said the inspiration for the channel comes from her mother, who recently retired as an elementary-school music teacher after 30 years in Orlando, Fla. “My mom is floored!” said GloZell. “She’s so proud. I always wanted to do a channel that incorporates songs for younger kids.”

“GloBugz!” will launch with 15 episodes, with new episodes rolling out weekly. Nidhi Handa, Green’s manager, said the channel will carry regular kid-appropriate ads via Google’s AdSense but that there will be no integrated advertisers in “GloBugz!” for now.

Why John Cho Keeps Searching for the Perfect Role

John Cho didn’t think to dream big, or at least he didn’t when he took up acting in the early ’90s. And it’s not a surprise he didn’t, considering the film and television landscape for Asian actors at the time was so “limited.” Cho says he initially planned to dabble in acting, “hit forty and get a straight job,” but that didn’t happen. Now, the 46-year-old actor is starring in a major franchise, will star in an upcoming episode of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot and his latest film, the internet-based drama Searching, is receiving a heap of attention with year end awards pundits. But amongst all the praise, Cho wants to do more by “stretching what an Asian-American is supposed to be on film.”

“I want people to be sick of me. I want to be overexposed,” Cho says with a chuckle. He’s paid his dues as a performer, playing a daffy stoner in American Pie before working his way up to a leading role in the cult comedy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Over the last year the actor has kept audiences on their toes, playing a melancholic Korean man struggling to cope with his father’s death in Columbus; a detective in Aaron Katz’s L.A. noir, Gemini; and a father scouring the internet for his daughter in Searching. He’s also been dubbed this year’s “hot dad” by the denizens of social media, a term Cho is very surprised to hear associated with him. Laughing he says, “I did not that expect that! I don’t know how to feel about that,” though he says he “humbly” accepts it.

Bret Easton Ellis Couldn’t Care Less About Trump

Bret Easton Ellis wants you to know that he cares squat about politics.

“I just cannot get that worked up over the absurdity of the president,” he sighs, “the absurdity of politics in general.”

He is long done with Trump, the hero of his blood-spattered “American Psycho” protagonist, Patrick Bateman. The president, Ellis says, “is just a comic figure who tripped into something.”

The novelist didn’t just skip the 2016 election. “I’ve never voted for president,” says Ellis, 55, sitting in his publisher’s Midtown Manhattan offices, promoting his new memoirish amalgam of essays, “White,” his first book in almost a decade. Senator? “No.” He can’t be bothered.

Megan Fox Had ‘Genuine Psychological Breakdown’ After ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sexualization

“I went through a very dark moment after that,” recalled the actress.

Megan Fox revealed the “sexualization” she faced in Hollywood, including 2009’s “Jennifer’s Body”, led to a “psychological breakdown”.

In an interview with ET on Wednesday, the 33-year-old actress opened up about how the marketing scheme promoting the horror comedy as a “sexy” romp for young males added to her growing frustration of being objectified.

“It wasn’t just that movie, it was everyday of my life, all the time, with every project I worked on and every producer I worked with,” she recalled. “It preceded a breaking point for me.”

“I think I had a genuine psychological breakdown where I wanted just nothing to do,” she continued.

Megan Fox

“I didn’t want to be seen, I didn’t want to have to take a photo, do a magazine, walk a carpet, I didn’t want to be seen in public at all because the fear, and the belief, and the absolute certainty that I was going to be mocked, or spat at, or someone was going to yell at me, or people would stone me or savage me for just being out… so I went through a very dark moment after that.”

And dealing with the ongoing “sexualization” of her public image ended up overshadowing for her the bad reviews and bombing of the Diablo Cody-penned movie at the box office.

“There was so much going on with me at that time, that that movie being picked apart was not at the top of [my list of concerns],” Fox shared.

“Because I had such a fraught relationship with the public, and the media, and journalists, and I was struggling so much at that time in general, this didn’t stand out as a particularly painful moment, it was just part of the mix.”

In “Jennifer’s Body”, Fox played the titular character who is violently sacrificed during a rock band’s pact with the devil. The sacrifice scene felt metaphorical, according to Fox.

Megan Fox

“I realized in filming that scene… that was really reflective of what I felt like my relationship with the movie studios at that point. Because I felt like that’s what they were willing to do. To literally leave me die.”

But Fox found a new perspective on life after the birth of her first child in 2012. She shares Noah, 6, Bodhi, 5, and Journey, 3, with husband Brian Austin Greene.

“I think it took getting pregnant… that was the first real breakthrough where my consciousness shifted and my mind opened up and I was able to see from a birds eye view and breath and take it in,” Fox admitted. “And then another kid, and then another kid and with every kid I feel like that’s always been the doorway into a better version of myself.”

Emma Chamberlain and Spencer Pratt Are Debuting Mini-Reality Shows On Snapchat Along With 17 Other Creators

It’s not new news that the way young and old people consume media is changing. But it is new news that Snapchat is debuting a slew of brand-new shows by some of the biggest names in social media, in what seems like a reality TV show roster for the youths. Snapchat announced the “Creator Show” series this morning, including the 19 — yes 19 — top creators that will be rolling out regular content on the app. And the names included span decades and interests.

While popular and cheeky reality programs like Love Island, The Bachelorette, and Queer Eye still dominate network and streaming platforms — they’re all a bit traditional in format for the modern social media user. Snapchat users are looking for some easy-to-consume content clocking in around five-minutes instead of 55. It’s bite-sized TV for Gen ZSpencer Pratt

So, who’s involved? There’s The Hills’ Spencer Pratt, who will have a show called Chasing Clout where he examines “Who’s chasing clout and who’s making it? Only pop culture oracle Spencer Pratt can decide.” Then you have Emma Chamberlain, whose show still remains “Untitled” at the moment, but fans of hers can surely expect an even more unfiltered look at her life. In a press release from Snapchat, Chamberlain explained by why she’s decided to expand her Gen Z empire from YouTube to Snapchat. “Snapchat has always been my favorite platform to post random and funny things on because it’s so relaxed,” she said. “My favorite part about it is that I get to watch my own Snapchat Stories a few hours after I post them for entertainment…. kind of embarrassing, I know…” (Who doesn’t’ do that though?)

Serena Williams will have her own show, as will Kevin Hart, and possibly even 71-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will be offering motivational advice like this. The youth needs this.Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Serena Williams on Snapchat

The shows, like the talent themselves, will be personality driven, and are all set to premiere in 2019 or early 2020. They’ll be in the Discover channel section, and are short enough to not takeaway from any of your other binge-watch commitments. If you thought Snap was over because of what Kylie Jenner said that one time, now may be a good time to re-download the app.
